School Mentoring
Our school mentoring programme provides free, personalised one-to-one support for boys and young men aged 11–21, helping them improve their mental health, emotional wellbeing and confidence while remaining engaged in education.
Early Intervention That Changes Lives
At Leeds Wellbeing Project CIC, we believe that every young person deserves access to someone who will listen, understand and help them navigate life’s challenges before they reach crisis.
Our school mentoring programme provides free, personalised one-to-one support for boys and young men aged 11–21, helping them improve their mental health, emotional wellbeing and confidence while remaining engaged in education.
Working closely with schools, families and professionals, we provide early intervention that complements existing pastoral support and helps young people overcome the barriers affecting their wellbeing and potential.
Why Mentoring?
For many young people, opening up to a trusted adult can be life-changing.
Our mentors use their own lived experience of overcoming adversity to build genuine, relatable relationships with the young people they support. This shared understanding helps reduce stigma, build trust and create a safe environment where honest conversations can take place.
We recognise that every young person’s journey is different, which is why our mentoring is tailored to each individual’s needs, goals and circumstances.
How It Works
Young people are referred to our mentoring programme by schools, parents or professionals when they would benefit from additional emotional wellbeing support.
Following an initial assessment, each participant is matched with a trained mentor and offered a personalised mentoring programme lasting up to 16 weeks.
Sessions are delivered within the school day at a time agreed with the school, ensuring minimal disruption to learning while allowing consistent engagement.
Each mentoring programme is built around the individual’s personal goals, with regular reviews to monitor progress and adapt support where needed.
A Lived Experience Approach
What makes our mentoring different is the people delivering it.
Our mentors have experienced many of the challenges that the young people they support may be facing, including poor mental health, trauma, low confidence and adversity. Through appropriate training, supervision and safeguarding, they use these experiences responsibly to build trust, inspire hope and demonstrate that recovery and positive change are possible.
By seeing someone who has overcome similar challenges, young people often feel more comfortable engaging with support and are encouraged to believe in their own potential.
The Difference We Aim to Make
Every mentoring relationship is built around helping young people develop the confidence, resilience and skills needed to manage life’s challenges independently.
Through mentoring, we aim to help participants:
- Improve their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Build confidence and self-esteem. - Develop healthier coping strategies.
- Improve school attendance and engagement.
- Strengthen communication and relationships.
- Increase resilience when facing challenges.
- Set positive goals for the future.
- Feel more connected to their school and community.
- Access support earlier before difficulties escalate.
Who We Work With
Referrals
Schools can refer young people directly into our mentoring programme through our referral process. Once a referral is received, we will work with the school to assess the young person’s needs, agree suitable outcomes and develop a personalised support plan.
If you would like to discuss our mentoring programme or make a referral, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we can help ensure that every young person has access to the support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
